TGB Takes Over Abul Barokat Islamic Boarding School After Sexual Violence Allegations

During the handover of the 4-hectare Islamic boarding school complex, TGB declined to enter the private residence of TGH Ahmad Imanuddin Sumar. Despite requests from family members, including the wife of TGH Iman, the former governor turned away and left the residential area. The leadership transition follows an ongoing investigation into the former leader, who missed a scheduled questioning session citing illness.

TGB stepped in following a direct request to keep the institution operational. “Today I speak as someone asked by Bapak Tuan Guru Iman to receive this pondok so that the educational process continues. Here there are 800 male and female santri,” TGB stated in Bunkate on Friday, as reported by TribunLombok.com.

Systemic Security and Adab Overhaul

Addressing students and administrators, TGB announced a comprehensive restructuring of internal rules, security protocols, and interaction guidelines within the boarding school. The changes aim to prevent misconduct and restore a safe learning environment for the student body.

TGB emphasized that the academic achievements and track records of the students must not suffer due to the legal proceedings facing the former leadership. The reform centers on tightening Islamic adab—rules of conduct—and regulating social interactions, particularly between staff and students of opposite sexes.

“There is an improvement, specifically the interaction between caregivers and santri and santriwati, especially those of different genders. Why does that need to be fixed? Because essentially in a pondok the adab must be Islamic adab. Spaces that allow that to happen are what we will eliminate,” TGB stated.
