Sony has turned the PlayStation 5 into a free live TV hub in the United States, rolling out a dedicated streaming lineup that requires no extra software downloads or paid subscriptions, according to reporting from Yahoo Tech. PlayStation 5 owners can access the new “Live TV on PS5” service directly from the console’s Media tab by signing in with an existing PlayStation account.
Channel Lineup and Content Offerings
The new service launches with more than 100 free, ad-supported live channels developed through Sony Pictures Television. According to Yahoo Tech, the programming spans multiple genres, including movies, television series, anime, sports, and news. Movie enthusiasts can tune into dedicated channels like Lionsgate’s MovieSphere, Sony One Horror Hits, and Cinevault. Meanwhile, television fans gain access to syndicated network staples such as Community, Forensic Files, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Fear Factor, and Ice Road Truckers.
The platform also features a robust anime selection, including Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note, and Black Clover. Sports and news viewers can access feeds from FOX Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now, UFC, NBC News Now, Fox Weather, and LiveNOW from FOX, alongside digital-first web content like Hot Ones and dedicated esports streams.
Access and Regional Rollout
Access to “Live TV on PS5” is completely free and does not require a paid PlayStation Plus membership. Users simply need to navigate to the Media tab on the PS5 home screen, select the Live TV icon, and authenticate their profile. Yahoo Tech notes that Canada is scheduled to receive the service next, though Sony has not yet confirmed a broader international release timeline.
Regarding hardware expansion, Sony stated plans to bring the live TV interface to Bravia televisions later this year. However, the company has not announced any plans to extend the live television service to the older PlayStation 4 or other competing gaming consoles.
