According to fan-captured video and accounts from TMZ and American Songwriter, a shower of pyrotechnic sparks erupted above the stage following the title track of her 2018 album. What appeared to be a localized fire then developed in the ceiling rafters above the performance area.
Musgraves paused the show and directed the audience’s attention toward the ceiling. “That looks bad. Genuinely, something’s on fire,” the 38-year-old singer told the crowd, according to American Songwriter. Joking about the situation, she added that she had “way too much hairspray” to stand underneath the flames and moved to a safer area of the stage.
