Callard, 69, explained that she was sitting with her onscreen daughter, played by Emily, and getting ready to run lines when she suddenly lost consciousness for approximately 10 minutes. According to the actress, the episode left her feeling “boiling hot” and unable to explain what happened. Per set protocol, an emergency ambulance was called to the studio.

While paramedics checked her vitals and noted her blood pressure was “through the roof,” Callard did not go to the hospital because she recovered quickly. Paramedics advised her to go home and rest for the weekend. Callard admitted that she currently feels “perfectly normal” at home, leaving her feeling like a “complete fraud,” though she acknowledges the episode is a sign that something remains amiss.

Ongoing Health Concerns and Cancer Treatment Background

The sudden fainting spell follows a challenging year for the soap veteran. In January, Callard announced her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer. She underwent surgery in April to remove a lump and subsequently completed 10 rounds of radiotherapy treatment, finishing that regimen in July. Speaking about her ongoing recovery, Callard noted she has “not been right” since completing radiotherapy and still experiences bouts of nausea.

The timing of her initial diagnosis closely coincided with her debut on Fair City. In February, Callard revealed on The Late Late Show that her consultant called her with the cancer diagnosis just 15 to 20 minutes before she was scheduled to film her very first scenes in her dressing room.

Callard confirmed she will return to the hospital next week to consult with her medical team and await the results of further tests, including biopsies taken from her stomach.
