Daniel Cormier to protect UFC light heavyweight championship against Anthony Manley at UFC 206

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his title against Anthony Manley within the primary event of UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada on December 10. The battle, that will occur in the Air Canada Center, was announced on FS1’s UFC Tonight.

“The town of Toronto continues to be buzzing following the Blue Jays’ walk-off homer yesterday,Inches Cormier stated. “The only factor more thrilling than that’s that i’m protecting the undisputed UFC light heavyweight title within the Six on December 10 at UFC 206, only on pay-per-view. Lower goes Rumble … again.”

However with Johnson taken care of, there’s a obvious road to the rematch. Cormier (18-1) is originating off a UFC 200 victory over Anderson Silva, who walked in on short notice after Jon Johnson was pulled in the card under 72 hrs prior to the event following the USADA breach. For Manley (22-5), apart from his loss to Cormier, he’s been in a tear with 12 victories in the last 13 fights. He’s won his last three fights by knockout to place themself back into title contention.

Both Cormier and Manley were thinking about fighting one another and suggested they “move on” from Jon Johnson until his legalities removed up. However, Dana White-colored suggested the concept that Johnson could go back to face Manley if his suspension was lessened through the NAC, much towards the chagrin of both Cormier and Manley.

The announcement follows speculation that Jon Johnson – who’d his disciplinary hearing using the Nevada Sports Commission for failing a UFC 200 drug test postponed – could face Manley within an interim title fight. However with Johnson hearing pressed to November, the MMA promotion moved on using the rematch from UFC 187, where Cormier posted Manley to consider having the UFC light heavyweight title that Johnson had vacated as he was suspended this past year.
