Baltimore police, prosecutors use kids in violent crime investigations –

However the youngsters are also potentially valuable witnesses inside a city where greater than 120 individuals have been wiped out this season and violent crime is surging, officials say.

As Baltimore endures record violence, city police and prosecutors are embracing an unlikely source to unlock crime scene clues: children.

“Children witnesses oftentimes suffer first-hands violence,” stated Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby. “The publish-traumatic stress, the depression, attachment issues, we have seen these kids acting out. … When we create funnel this inside a productive way, it may be harmful.”

Law enforcement department and state’s attorney’s office will announce Monday they’re partnering with trained interviewers in the Baltimore Child Abuse Center to question children who’ve observed violence or any other crimes. The concept is both to assist the kids cope with the trauma and also to solve the crimes.
